Will likely join us in the 1911 Bar at the Imperial and dine with us at Spice Route.  A fascinating Indian storyteller and personal friend of all the leaders of India.  Will tell you the story of the struggle to overturn the law against homosexuality in India.

 

Gurjeet Kaur, 30 years old. Just got PhD at Jawal Nehru University in Politics.  Great student of Gandhi.  She will join us to share insights into current Indian politics Sikh culture, and the role of women in Indian society today.

 

Shruti Singal:  A lovely young lady in Delhi who will be our guide to the restaurants, shops, and locals that only a Delhite would know. She will introduce us to Delhi's world of artists and fashion designers. If possible, we will meet Shruti's father whose remarkable story is told in Telecom Man. He brought the internet to India.

 

Rahul Sethi:  A sportsman. Will teach us about cricket.

Navarino Narah. our tourguide in the Himalayas. Native of the Himalayas, creator of boutique hotels, and voted one of the top 10 tour guides in the world.

This is another day of acclimatization. Have a slow start to the day, relax and have breakfast. Enjoy the breathtaking views from your hotel and explore your surroundings. After lunch, drive to Ney village and visit Basgo Fort, an 11th century fort that played a major role in defense against Tibetans and was home to a Muslim queen. Enjoy breathtaking views of this trans-Himalayan region and its people. Night at the Golden Dragon.

Today, after breakfast, drive further west and explore Likir, Alchi, and Lamayuru monasteries.  Lamayuru is popularly known as moonscape due to large moon-like craters on its landscape believed to be the bottom of an ancient lake. Sunday, June 13, 2021:  Leh

GOLDEN DRAGON: $117/night

“WHITE-WATER RAFTING”

Gear up for this thrilling day of white water rafting in the Zanskar river. After an early breakfast, drive up to Chilling village, an enchanting village of coppersmiths. You will visit the homes of local coppersmiths who weld hand designed bangles, utensils, and other silverware.


Rafting will start from this village at 11 am after your visit--a grade 3 adventure awaiting you through a jaw-dropping landscape. It is rather shocking to realize that this river freezes during the winters and people trek on it to get to the Zanskar Valley. Finish rafting at the Indus-Zanskar confluence, drive to Golden Dragon (25 min). Lunch at the Golden Dragon. Relax post lunch and explore Leh town market in the evening at leisure. Night at the Golden Dragon.

Tuesday, June 15, 2021:  Leh

Stok Palace:  $167/night

 

After breakfast, pick your Royal Enfield motorbikes to ride up to Khardung la (the world’s highest motorable road). Return for lunch in town. Spend the afternoon shopping, your cars will wait for you in town to put away your purchases. After an evening of shopping, you could either ride or drive your way up to Stok palace (the home of the current King of Ladakh). Night at the Stok Palace.

Wednesday, June 16, 2021:  Leh/Ladakh

“EXPLORING UDAIPUR”

 

Wake up to attend Buddhist morning prayers on top of the world, at Thiksey Monastery. Return to the palace for breakfast. Post breakfast, drive to Hemis Monastery. Enjoy a picnic lunch and visit Shey Palace (old capital of Ladakh) on your way back. Spend the evening with an oracle. Very powerful oracles have lived in Ladakh for centuries and their unique, mysterious traditions continue to this day. Night at the Stok Palace.

Thursday, June 17, 2021 Leh/Ladakh

Today, you have the option of doing a small trek to Mon Karmo (a walk that promises sightings of some fascinating wildlife, such as, blue sheep, argali, ibex, etc.) OR cycling through the Stok valley, along the Indus river. You will return to Stok Palace for lunch and enjoy the rest of your afternoon at leisure, followed by a traditional folk dance performance at the Palace followed by a grand Himalaya Farewell Dinner.  Night at Stok palace.

Flights leave at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Saturday evening or Sunday morning around 2:30 am.  Our guests book the Taj Palace with arrival on Friday, June 18, 2021, and departure, June 20, 2021, so that they can use their hotel room until it is time to leave for the airport to fly back to the U.S.  (about 1 hour by taxi/Uber from the hotel to Delhi International Airport).
